Bowie guitarist for Kells 'Reawakening'

Gerry Leonard, the guitarist who worked extensively with David Bowie, will join forces with a host of international and local musicians and performing artists at  The Reawakening Concert at the Headfort Arms Hotel, Kells on Saturday 27th January.

This event is happening as a result of the development of an exciting new theatre production reimagining the life of Ettie Steinberg, Ireland's only known citizen to be murdered in the Holocaust.  This production is the work of Award Winning playwright Deirdre Kinahan, with two of Ireland’s finest NYC based musicians Michael Brunnock (Kells) and Gerry Leonard (Dublin), and Irish Music legend Steve Wickham  (Waterboys) which is funded by Meath County Council Arts Office, the Arts Council of Ireland, Irish Arts Centre New York and Vibe Training & Presentations.  They are delighted to participate in the Kells Reawakening event which will be MCed by local funnyman and star of “The Tommy Tiernan Show” Fred Cooke. Other performers on the night include Hamsandwich’s Niamh Farrell, Mick McAuley (Solas) , Triona Ni Dhomhnaill (Bothy Band, Skara Brae, Touchstone) and Maighread Ni Dhomhnaill (Skara Brae), Matthew Gilsenan (The Celtic Tenors), Deirdre Shannon, Ollie Cole , Martin Flanagan, Saramai, Anthony Cregan, Turn and Enemy Lines. The night will also feature award-winning movie ‘Leap of Faith’ directed by Mark Smyth, award-winning playwright Deirdre Kinahan and renowned poet Peter Fallon.

The Kells Reawakening event marks the launch of a new conceptual marketing initiative titled “The Fifth Province”. The aim is to promote the arts, culture heritage, education, enterprise, sports and tourism in the North East, drawing from the amazing energy and drive stemming at grassroots level within Kells.

The project is the brainchild of Kells businesswoman Mari Brunnock, who believes it’s an ideal opportunity to celebrate the incredible local talent coming from the Kells area.

“Over the past 100 years, a huge diaspora of Kells people have left home and achieved so much on an international scale – as artists, musicians, academics, business people and politicians. They, along with local residents are joining forces to celebrate our people, culture and heritage,” explains Brunnock.

The concert will kick off at 8pm with tickets already selling out quickly. They’re currently available for €20 from the Headfort Arms Hotel, The Bookmarket in Kells and www.ticketstop.ie
