Ailish Tynan joins Chamber Orchestra in Mullingar

The Irish Chamber Orchestra ends 2017 on a high note with two atmospheric Christmas concerts in the intimate setting of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick (14th December)  and All Saints Church, Mullingar (15th December) with world-renowned soprano, Ailish Tynan.
'The Best of Christmas' features a feast of festive classics from Finland Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy and Ireland.  Sibelius’s remarkable Andante Festivo combines a rich sonority with a sense of poignancy.  Silent Night is the soundtrack to Christmas worldwide and captures the spirit of the season better than any other carol.   French hit song Petit Papa Noël by Tino Rossi became a popular secular hymn sung by children at Christmas. Vivaldi’s Paris Concerti are full of joy and No. 2, performed by the ICO, brims with nimble rhythmic vivacity.Grieg's Holberg Suite demonstrates his great skill with simple harmonies that are powerfully moving.
Songs were a constant in his output and Ailish Tynan sings some of Grieg's most beautiful, which are lush and full of melody. Moraeus's Koppangen (Holy Night) oozes Christmas warmth while the beautiful Sankta Lucia is always sung at the Festival of Light in Sweden.  The much loved Wexford Carol is paired with another old Irish classic, Don Oíche úd I mBeithil.  Oh Holy Night is the jewel in crown of this superb line-up of songs.
Ailish Tynan is one of the most colourful and entertaining sopranos - an opera star and a leading exponent of the art song.  The Irish Chamber Orchestra is one of Europe’s finest chamber orchestras combining high quality performances with an expansive artistic vision.  The orchestra continues to attract world-class musicians with a repertoire that is risk-taking and diverse.
