'What Would Ma Say?' in Ratoath

The theatre play 'What Would Ma Say?' comes to The Venue Theatre, Ratoath for one night only, on Friday 24th November at 8pm.
A moving memoir written by Kathleen Doyle, and adapted for stage by Dublin playwright and director Gerard Ronan, it tells the true story of a family growing up in an impoverished 1950s and '60s Dublin.

Kathleen never had a childhood, one of twelve children, she was always "the big sister" the one the other siblings turned to when their mother was out working and their farther out drinking. Born into one room in a tenement house in Dublin before moving to Crumlin, the family grew up in an Ireland you would not recognise today. The mother was the backbone, the one who kept them together as a family, just about keeping their heads above water.

But through all the poverty, growing up the family did have a laugh, like the time when they turned their kitchen into a swimming pool on a hot summers day, or the time when the tried to hide the carcass of a pig in the bath, or eating chocolate from the dump until they all got the runs. This show will sell out so early booking is advisable so not to be disappointed or you will have “MA” to answer to.
