Taste of Cavan moves to new home
One of the biggest and best family events in the country, Taste of Cavan returns on 12th – 13th August in Cavan Town, with even more great local producers displaying their wares, demonstrations from internationally-renowned chefs and lots of exciting fun for all ages.
In 2015, Taste of Cavan moved to its new home at Cavan Equestrian Centre, welcoming a record 38,500 visitors to the food event of the summer. In just five years, the festival has moved from modest beginnings to become a major festival on the national food calendar. It truly is unmissable, with food lovers and families, from Belfast to Cork, and Mayo to Dublin, making the short trip to Cavan sample the exciting festival atmosphere.
Making full use of this wonderful venue's three large arenas and top facilities, Taste of Cavan 2016 will be even bigger and better, with a stellar line-up of chefs in the Ulster Bank Chefs’ Kitchen, including Ireland’s best-loved chef Neven Maguire, Rachel Allen, Richard Corrigan and BBC Good Food award winner Anjula Devi, not to mention Cavan food heroes Gearóid Lynch, and the Michelin-starred Enda McEvoy.
A new addition to this year’s roster is rising star Eddie Attwell of St Kyran’s Country House in Virginia, soon to appear on BBC’s The Great British Menu’. TV3’s Shane Smith and Adrian Martin, ‘The No Salt Chef’ Brian McDermott, and the much loved Bord Bia food advisor Máire Dufficy complete this mouth-watering line-up.
On top of that, Taste of Cavan will feature over 120 stalls showcasing the very best of local and regional produce and offering lots of free samples in the Anglo-Celt Arena, meaning this year’s line-up is looking very tasty indeed!
New to Taste of Cavan 216 will be an exciting Home Chef of Cavan cookery competition, where nine amateur cooks get to try their hand at cooking for a panel of top chefs including Neven Maguire, and a Junior Masterchef competition in association with the Olde Post Inn.
The inflatable Taste of Cavan ‘Pod’ stage will also host a series of food demonstrations, food talks, information sessions, and discussions, including a pertinent discussion on the implications of ‘Brexit’ for Irish food.
Once again, in 2016, Taste of Cavan will be more than just a food festival, and there will be a wide variety of fun, free and exciting activities for all the family to enjoy, ensuring the little ones are entertained while the grown-ups sample the delights of Cavan food provenance.
Among the free activities are scout camp, face-painting, giant obstacle course and slide, junior fitness challenge, herb and vegetable gardens, 1916 exhibition, Geopark Fossil Hunting and a crazy playtrailer. With free entry for kids to Taste of Cavan, it’s the only place to be this summer for family fun.
The festive atmosphere will not just be confined to Cavan Equestrian Centre, and visitors can get a ‘Taste of the Town’ all weekend as Cavan’s Market Square hosts family fun with music and song, including a free concert from music star Áine Cahill, fresh from appearances at Glastonbury and on the BBC. A free express ‘train’ will also bring visitors to and from Taste of Cavan from Cavan Town hourly between 10am and 5pm. Local pubs and hotels will have plenty of special offers on food and accommodation, and lots of entertainment for the duration of the festival as well, so make sure you stay and sample the delights of Cavan hospitality!
