Mick flannery headlines spirit of folk

At which summer festival would you find a bald eagle flying display, next to a bug hotel, while Vikings maraud to a soundtrack of raucous trad and folk? Spirit of Folk, of course!

Hailed as one of the quirkiest festivals on the scene, Spirit of Folk unveiled its music lineup, along with some very interesting activities for all the ages.

Meteor Award winning Mick Flannery will headline the 2015 event, set to take place in Dunderry Park, Co Meath this September 18-20th.

This year’s festival will also feature; Contemporary rock-trad powerhouse, ‘Moxie’, a soulful and much hyped ‘Inni-K’ and the roof raising ‘Bunoscionn’, returning from their European tour, to perform a reggae-trad inspired ‘G.A.A Disco’ and will grace the Whelans Main Stage.

Other up and coming Irish acts include Rhob Cunningham, Elm, Dr Millar, Mongoose, Cuig, Carriages, Corner Boy, Rob Corcoran, The Blood Red Mountain Band, The Midnight Union Band, Elephant, Saint Sister, Elaine, Petonc, Basciville, Majestic Bears, Na Tonnta, Sun.Set.Ships, The Marriannes, Anna Mieke, The Ocelots, Carron & Kate O’Callaghan with more to be announced late August.

As well as cutting edge Irish music, there will be lots of alternative events. These include storytelling from national treasures such as Batt Burns, Jack Lynch, Eddie Lenihan, and Aideen McBride.  Or if you look for something even more alternative, there are talks and workshops on Ancient Druidism and Shamanism, African song and Dance workshops, Viking Battle Re-enactments, Bicycle Jousting, Yoga, Astronomy and Bushcraft.

Festival Director, Natasha Duffy, says: ‘Each year we try and promote as many interesting and unique activities as possible. This year we will have a bug hotel as well as pop up shadow theatre and a very special midnight woodland light show. We want people to leave feeling like they got to experience the wonderful and bizarre!’

The festival will launch with a night to showcase the festivals music and storytelling, on 22nd August in Whelans of Dublin.

Weekend tickets cost €70 and day tickets cost €50 all including camping and campervans.
