Stringer joins tv3 rugby panel

Rugby legend Peter Stringer, who boasts almost 100 caps for Ireland, has been unveiled as the final pundit on TV3’s Rugby World Cup 2015 panel.

The former Ireland scrum half, who recently joined English premiership side Sale Sharks, was in Dublin alongside Shane Jennings and Stuart Barnes to celebrate ’50 Days to Go’ to the biggest sporting event of the year; RWC 2015. All of the action from ALL 48 matches will be live and exclusive on TV3 from Friday 18th September.

As well as showing all matches on screen, TV3 will also be live streaming all RWC 2015 matches on 3player.

Joining Peter Stringer on TV3’s team of analysts will be former Ireland and Lions hooker Keith Wood, rugby coaching guru Matt Williams, recently retired Leinster & Ireland flanker Shane Jennings and former Ireland international rugby union player Hugo MacNeill.

The commentary team will be led by the BBC’s Conor McNamara, who returns to TV3 for Rugby World Cup 2015 where he will be joined by Stuart Barnes of Sky Sports and rugby analyst Liam Toland. Newstalk’s David McIntyre will be behind the mic on some of the tournament’s big games.

Former Munster academy member and regular writer for TheJournal.ie Murray Kinsella, will also join Matt Cooper and Sinead Kissane on the broadcasting team with regular updates from the Ireland camp and all the big stories from RWC 2015.

Commenting on the addition of Peter to the RWC 2015 panel, Kieran Holden, TV3 Group Head of Sport, said: “Peter Stringer is one of the most recognisable faces of Irish rugby over the last decade or so, he is another big addition to our team of relevant experts and will bring some unique insights to our audience as both a modern player as well as a veteran of two World Cups. Remembered for some of his game changing moments, including the odd ankle-tap, we look forward to having Peter with us on our 48 games Rugby World Cup journey”

Peter Stringer said: “I’m delighted to be part of TV3’s panel for Rugby World Cup. It’s a great opportunity for me to air some of my views and to give an insight into what happens on the pitch in high pressure situations, and hopefully I can enlighten some of the viewers as to what is actually going on in these big games. I’m excited about the whole tournament starting and getting my teeth into doing a bit of analysis work. I’m also delighted to be working with such a vast array of talented panellists; guys I would have played with and worked with in the industry for a long time.”

Speaking about Ireland’s chances, Peter said: “Given the success that the team has had in the last couple of seasons there’s a lot of hype and pressure, but they [Ireland] have their feet on the ground and Joe Schmidt certainly won’t let any of the guys get carried away. I think to improve on previous years and get past that quarter final stage ultimately is the aim. Hopefully we can get to the knock out stages as pool winners. I think they have a genuine chance of going very far in this competition.”
