What was your greatest irish gig of all time

Not content with naming the greatest ever gig in Ireland, Hot Press has gone a whole lot further by naming the 50 greatest Irish gigs– as well as the 10 best festivals.

Nirvana, U2, Taylor Swift, Jay Z and Kanye all feature in the sure-to-be controversial countdown... But who made it to number one?

This fortnight, Hot Press unveils the '50 Greatest Irish Gigs Of All Time' ... or at least in the time that Hot Press has been keeping Ireland safe for rock 'n' roll!

The exhaustive compilation of this era-spanning list saw many a blazing row at Hot Press HQ and is sure to inspire much heated debate among fans and aficionados alike, as the new issue – with its classic image of Iggy Pop on the front – hits newsstands. But, ultimately, the issue – which also includes lists of the top 10 festivals, best residencies and a selection of the 10 greatest gigs before Hot Press arrived on the scene – stands as a celebration of how truly life-changing the live experience can be.

From The Smiths and Thin Lizzy to Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson, every gig in the Hot Press Top 50 is a cast-iron classic and we relive each of them in detail, with recollections from Hot Press-ers in attendance, past and present, and many of the musicians responsible.

The complete list is published and the gigs are remembered in detail, in the new issue of Hot Press.

Hot Press is inviting members of the public to share their memories of the greatest gigs on hotpress.com/top50gigs

'Doubtless we've left some of people's favourites out,” Hot Press deputy editor Stuart Clark said. 'We want people to tell us what they are, and to share their memories of those epic nights with us. We'll eventually present the overall readers' verdict.”
