Lyric documentary on kells composer dick farrelly

Kells man Dick Farrelly, who was a relatively unknown Irish composer whose most famous song was a world-wide hit, is the subject of a Lyric FM documentary tomorrow evening. Born in 1916, Dick Farrelly composed a song called The Isle of Innisfree. This song became a world-wide hit for Bing Crosby. American film director, John Ford later used its melody as the main theme in his iconic film, The Quiet Man. Enjoy a musical step back in time as this documentary explores Farrelly's life and music and ponders would The Quiet Man film have been as successful without his contribution?

Contributors to the documtenary produced by Gráinne Gavigan include Gerard Farrelly, Carol Farrelly, Jim Farrelly, Dick Farrelly Jnr, Phil Coulter, Prof Des MacHale, Ray Harman, Dr Méabh Ní Fhuartháin, Prof Kevin Rockett, Dr Philip Lane, Finbar Furey, Sgt Martin Drew and Fr Brian D'Arcy.

It airs on RTÉ Lyric FM' The Lyric Feature on Friday July 10th at 7pm.
