Mark Brady in Mexico.

Solstice screening of mark brady documentary

Navan business man, musician, magician and humanitarian, Mark Brady brings his documentary film “Living on the Edge” to Solstice Arts Centre. This documentary film tells the fascinating story of the time he spent living in the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico and sheds light on a determined individual who has lived life on his terms, close to the edge.

In 1984, Mark, a businessman, from Flower Hill, was on holidays in the United States. He decided to take a train south into Mexico. On that journey he saw for the first time, from the train, a group of people who were to become very important in his life – the Tarahumara Indians. Little did Mark realise, at that time that he would eventually end up living among these people for six months every year or that each year he would return to Navan to raise funds for them.

The film borrows the name from Mark’s book, Living on the Edge, which was released in 2013. In the film we get to see how Mark helped improve the lives of the marginalised Tarahumara Indians by building communities, providing work, providing leadership and most importantly providing hope. We also get to hear about the changes he has seen in Navan since his childhood in the 1940s.

Living on the Edge will be screened at Solstice Arts Centre on Saturday, June 27th at 7.30pm with all proceeds going to the Irish Tarahumara Society. Tickets €10 available online www.solsticeartscentre.ie or call Box-Office on (046) 909 2300. Directed and produced by Ronan Carley, running time 90 minutes.
