Hamsandwich for cinema club at easter

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Fresh from their initial Cinema Club night with Aslan, the Le Cheile Festival crew are back again this Easter Sunday, 5th April, with the band currently storming the Irish charts once again, HamsandwicH!

'Fandango', the latest single from their new album, 'Stories from the Surface', will be released this Friday with a launch in HMV Grafton Street, Dublin, making the Kells band one of Ireland's most in-demand acts, with a slew of appearances forthcoming to promote this new album, which is already garnering critical acclaim.

The difference a few years can make in the life of a band can be many things, not least surprising and educational. They say a week is a long time in politics, but a few years in music is multiple lifetimes. And so HamsandwicH, the band you thought you knew very well, has turned into HamsandwicH, the band you second guess at your peril.

You can tick the boxes here: Within the last two years the band perform at Slane Castle, personally invited by Mumford & Sons to support them in Phoenix Park, and play at the President of Ireland’s Garden Party. Last year they sold out their first headline gig at Dublin’s prestigious Olympia Theatre, supported Arcade Fire and The Pixies at Marley Park during the summer, and stuffed out the Electric Arena tent at this year’s Electric Picnic. Not bad going for a band once battling with the dreaded ‘quirky’ tag, is it?

You can see the difference when they perform onstage – where there was once a band that seemed to revel in the occasional ramshackle live show now there is self-confidence, assurance and a sense of humour that is less slapstick and more on the subtle side.

Support on the night will come from highly acclaimed band, Cornerboy. Along with a slew of comparisons to Mumford and Sons, this Wexford based band have been steadily winning fans and influencing people with their unique brand of folk Americana with gospel/blues influences fused with Irish flavoured instrumentation. Corner Boy incorporate traditional Irish music into the modern ‘new folk’ sound to give folk lovers in Ireland a distinctive, relevant and current but familiar environment to stamp their feet too.

Ray Scully will also play on the night, and has become a representation of just how far honesty and hard work can bring a performer along in their career.
A Voice of Ireland runner up and a firm favourite of Le Cheile Festival goers, Dubliner Ray brings his unique brand of acoustic blues/folk/indie to Oldcastle.
