Navan group to stage kevins bed

Navan Theatre Group and director Des Lynch have decided to continue the successful link with author Bernard Farrell and offer audiences a chance to see Kevin’s Bed, a wonderfully insightful family comedy. This is the fourth time that the Group have produced a Farrell play and in Kevin’s Bed it is clear why Navan audiences have enjoyed his comedy down the years. As Dan and Doris celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary they look back to their 25th with nostalgia, expectation and broken dreams as they contemplate the lives of their two sons John and Kevin. For the audience there is a Dan and Doris in every street and when Kevin makes his Bed and has to lie on it the drama unfolds. It is of course very different from what Dan and especially Doris had prayed for.

They are forever perplexed, amused and appalled at how their happiness is at the mercy of their children’s fortunes.

The play gradually introduces us to friends and neighbours and the characters are human and familiar. Bernard Farrell has us laughing with them and never at them. The play carries us over twenty five years with wit and humour that is so Irish in its quick, sharp delivery and gentle in uncovering the imperfections in human nature.

Des Lynch hopes audiences will really enjoy what he says is “a very funny play, full of witty banter, family relationships, and a good night out.”
