Meath Harp Ensemble for World Congress in Australia

The Meath Harp Ensemble will be participating at the World Harp Congress 2014, in Sydney, Australia this July.

The ensemble, which comprises of eight Irish harps and one concert harp led by Dearbhail Finnegan, will perform a new work composed by Vincent Kennedy, commissioned by Meath County Council, funded by the Department of Environment, Community & Local Government under the Per Cent for Art Scheme.

The work entitled ‘The Chronicles of Meath’ is in seven movements. Each of the movements depicts different times in the history of County Meath: Newgrange, The Hill of Tara – The Hill of Slane, The Book of Kells, O’Carolan’s Arrival, Lament at the Boyne, an arrangement of O’Carolan’s Concerto, and finally, Have you ever been to Nobber in the County of Meath?

The world premiere of ‘The Chronicles of Meath’ was performed in the Solstice Arts Centre, Navan on 15th March 2013, and was described as a ‘spellbinding sensory experience’. It will again be performed this Friday night May 23rd in the Solstice Arts Centre at 8pm, with special guests Navan Male Voice Choir.
