Ratoath based Cult Called Man

Meath band among Hot Press 'Final Five'

The public has spoken. After tens of thousands of votes, Hot Press now have the final five for The Big Break competition, in association with Alcatel Onetouch.

Amongst the finalists is Meath band Cult Called Man. Making it through to the original shortlist with their song 'The Walkyr', the six-piece from Ratoath await the final result. You can check the band out on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CultCalledMan or see them live tonight upstairs in Whelan's.

The victorious artist or artists will follow in the footsteps of the likes of James Vincent McMorrow, Damon Albarn, Paolo Nutini and Elbow by gracing a Hot Press cover in 2014, and they’ll also be invited to perform at a specialHot Press gig to launch their very first issue.

The five acts remaining are still in running to win The Big Break 2014 and appear on a Hot Press flip-cover. And they'll also get to play at a very special gig to launch their issue as well as receiving their very own Alcatel Onetouch handset(s). The decision is now down to the judges.

Hot Press has unveiled five new video shoots, shot specially in Hot Press HQ, of the finalists. The five promising young acts gathered at 13 Trinity Street to show what they've got in person… and the results are hugely inspiring.

Cult Called Man gave 'The Walkyr’; El Grey performed 'I Won't Go’; Miriam Donohue was on hand with ‘Bookmarks'; Rackhouse Pilfer delivered 'Bright Lights' and Rocstrong performed 'Smooth'.

These superb performances, captured on video by director Rowan Stokes, showcase why these artists have made it this far: you can check them out here: http://www.hotpress.com/thebigbreak/

The winning act will appear in the next issue of Hot Press out on Thursday May 29.
