Meath acts on 'Big Break' shortlist

Meath acts Cult Called Man, Simon O’Driscoll and Red Queen Contest have been shortlisted in 'The Big Break Competition' in association with ALCATEL ONETOUCH – where Hot Press is giving an Irish act their 'Big Break' by putting them on the cover of the magazine.

After the huge success of last year’s Big Break competition, which served as a brilliant showcase of the shining talent on display across this isle, Hot Press and ALCATEL ONETOUCH once again sent out a call for the finest rising artists this country has to offer.  As expected, the response has been overwhelming, as enterprising young bands and solo acts alike entered in their thousands, covering every imaginable genre and making our job very, very tricky indeed.

After much deliberation, fist fights, make-ups and many, many coffee runs, the judges managed to whittle the entries down to the one golden shortlist of 33 acts to remain in the race, including Cult Called Man, Simon O’Driscoll and Red Queen Contest.

The victorious artist or artists will follow in the footsteps of the likes of James Vincent McMorrow, Damon Albarn, Paolo Nutini and Elbow by gracing a Hot Press cover in 2014, and they’ll also be invited to perform at a special Hot Press gig to launch their very first issue.

The public can vote to help decide the winner so it's time for Meath to get behind their local acts! This is a vital stage in the process of selecting the winner and people can vote today at hotpress.com/thebigbreak where a track from each shortlisted artist is available for you to listen and vote for your favourite.

Voting closes on Sunday May 11th. To vote go to www.hotpress.com/thebigbreak
