Classical night at Solstice

On Saturday 15th March at Solstice Arts Centre Navan, the renowned pianist Finghin Collins and superb violinist Elizabeth Cooney will join prominent French cellist Marc Coppey for a fresh and vibrant chamber music performance. The evening will feature Haydn’s melodic Piano Trio in E major, Shostakovich’s Trio No 2 and Dvo?ák’s ever popular ‘Dumky’ Trio.

Finghin Collins - widely regarded as one of Ireland's finest classical musicians, says: “An often over-looked fact is that Haydn was the pioneer of the piano trio as well as the string quartet and the symphony. The mostly sunny piano trio in E major, in three movements, is from the heyday of the Classical style and in some respects resembles a piano concerto, with a florid and soloist part for the pianist and less important parts for the string players. Shostakovich's second piano trio is an extraordinary work; it is a lamentation for both the composer's close friend Ivan Sollertinsky and the victims of the Holocaust… It is a work of incredible emotional power and intensity and remains of the strongest works in the piano trio repertoire.  Dvorak's Dumky trio is one of his most popular works.  It is essentially a suite of six Slavic songs and dances, an alternation of slow, melancholy music with upbeat, catchy tunes.'

Elizabeth Cooney has been described as 'extraordinarily gifted' by Martin Lovett of the Amadeus Quartet, while French Cellist MarcCoppey has performed in the prestigious concert halls of London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Moscow, New York, Sao Paulo, Shanghai and Tokyo, and has recently been soloist with the Orcestre de Paris, Orcestre Philharmonique de Radio-France and RTE NSO among others.
