Artist James English.

English exhibition in Naul

The Séamus Ennis Cultural Centre in Naul launched its new ‘Easter Snow Gallery’ on Saturday 1st March. The gallery will exhibit works by renowned local artist James English, RHA, and is open free of charge to all visitors to the Centre. This exhibition marks the start of a continuing commitment by the Séamus Ennis Cultural Centre to provide an extended arts programme to North County Dublin.

Originally from Naul, James now paints from his studio in Lough Shinny and produces landscapes and still life works, using as inspiration his connection with horse racing and nature, ornithology in particular. James has exhibited frequently in Ireland and was elected a full member of The Royal Hibernian Academy in 2005. James has been the recipient of many awards including The James Kenneth Kennedy Memorial Award, RHA exhibition 2001; The ESB Keating/ McLaughlin Medal & Award, RHA Exhibition 2003; and RHA Friends Award at the RHA Exhibition 2012.

The SECC is currently undergoing something of a transformation, having launched a new brochure with many brand new events for the spring season 2014. Among the features is LOL in Naul, a new monthly comedy club hosted by Gearoid Farrelly featuring top class acts such as Karl Spain, Fred Cooke and Eleanor Tiernan.

There will be many headline musical acts over the spring season, including The Four of Us, The Walls, and Leslie Dowdall. However, the programme maintains its traditional ethos with music classes, slow sessions and junior slow sessions and traditional musical acts like Lumiere and The Whileaways.
