New Fishamble commission touring to Draoicht

Commissioned by Fishamble in partnership with the Strollers Touring Network, 'Little Thing, Big Thing' is a new production touring to 16 venues in Ireland including Draiocht Blanchardstown on 7th and 8th March at 8pm.

Glasnevin born and now living in Leitrim, Donal O’Kelly is one of Ireland’s foremost socially engaged playwrights. In this new stream-of-consciousness thriller, Little Thing, Big Thing, he pulls out all the stops.

In Nigeria, a frightened child puts an old roll of film into the hands of Dublin-bound teacher Sister Martha. In Dublin, ex-con Larry, with a wounded backside, has to get out of the city to rob a convent. Meanwhile, Scarab Oil plans to unleash its new clean fuel of the future. The film roll Martha is carrying attracts the urgent interest of some very powerful and ambitious people. Sorcha Fox and Donal O’Kelly play Martha and Larry, who take a high octane jump into the brutal world of international energy skullduggery and awaken passions they thought were long behind them! With high speed car chases, ramblings around familiar Dublin streets and fast-paced switching between the many characters, this play is as full of laugh-out-loud moments as it is with shocking fast-intake-of-breath moments!

Fishamble is a multi-award winning company, dedicated to new plays.  It tours its productions throughout Ireland and internationally.

Donal O’Kelly trained in Dublin’s Focus Theatre and is a writer, actor and theatre director. Shows he has directed include Farawayan, Running Beast, The Adventures of the Wet Señor and Skeffy. He recently won a Scotsman Fringe First for his magic realist solo play about the Shell Mayo gas project, Fionnuala, shortlisted for the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression award. Francisco, the Ocean FM radio musicdrama series he wrote and directed, recently won the Prix Europa 2013 Award in Berlin for best radio drama series. He tours with his own plays such as Catalpa and The Cambria in Ireland and abroad, combining theatre work with social activism, mainly through justice and peace organisation Afri.
