Double exhibition in Luan gallery
Athlone's Luan Gallery is to present 'DE_Cline' by Paul Quast and 'Soul Space' by Dympna Bonfield.
Paul Quast is an emerging Limerick based conceptual artist whose work explores the boundaries of art, engineering and physics. Utilising an array of constructive and scientific methods, Quast enjoys creating work that is provocative, socially engaging and sometimes humorous. Exploring the notion of ‘success’, Quast’s quirky installations invite the viewer to examine their own interpretation of success in life through the use of informative, critically thought out pieces.
In his installations viewers will find projections, prisms, lasers and bulbs creating rainbows, galaxies, floating lights, and magnetic fields. Visitors are invited to engage with Quast’s unusual art works encouraging questions relating to visual perception, reality and success.
In contrast to this contemporary installation based work, a collection of oil paintings on canvas by Dympna Bonfield present a more traditional collection of visual art work. Bonfield is a well-known artist and art-therapist who has exhibited her work extensively nationally and internationally. Bonfield’s work is inspired by the landscape and people of her native County Clare. Her style is intuitive and expressive resulting in a collection of vibrant, emotive works.
Both artists have strong Athlone connections. Quast is an Athlone native who moved to Limerick to pursue his artistic career while Bonfield, currently resettled in her Co Clare home, formerly taught in St Mary’s Infant’s School and Our Lady’s Bower Secondary School.

‘One of my favourite forms of art is interactive art, where the viewers participate in some way by providing an input in order to determine the outcome. Electromagnetic fields, optics and entropy in Paul’s exhibition are sure to get all viewers engaged with the artwork. Dypmna’s work on the other hand does not describe either the people or the landscape. Her paintings have the lightness, freshness and spontaneity and invite viewers to relax. The opening show of 2014 is a promise of an interesting, engaging and exciting programme for the year ahead.’
Luan Gallery will host a drinks reception to celebrate the launch ofthe new exhibitionson Friday 17th January at 18:00, all welcome.

Luan Gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday 11.00 – 17.00, Sunday 12.00 – 17.00 and is closed on Mondays.
