Seamus O'Rourke and Pa Ryan in 'Ride On'.

Ride On! to Ramor

Nomad Theatre Network and Livin' Dred Theatre Company this week present 'Ride On!' by Seamus O'Rourke at the Ramor Theatre, Virginia. A Honda 50 bike-run forms the background for this hilarious new play by Leitrim man, O'Rourke. Five members of the Drumkarren Honda club sit waiting on a wet day in an old shed in Cavan, ready to embark on a Honda 50 bike ride for charity. The other twenty members are "stuck" in a pub in Killeshandra! Their host for the day is a local Cavan farmer, Victor Maguire, who eats grape fruit for breakfast and is perhaps not as harmless as they think. A lot can happen in a shed in Cavan on a wet day with a few dodgy characters and a Honda called Hilda! Ride On! is about rural communities, local newspapers, local radio, local gossip and the 'boom' that is now a 'bust'. After wowing audiences in Cavan and Leitrim in Autumn 2011, this funny and insightful play is set to return for a nationwide tour, led by the award winning Nomad Theatre Network in association with Livin' Dred Theatre Company and directed by Padraic McIntyre. Writer and actor O' Rourke stars in this production alongside a stalwart cast of John Olohan (The Clinic, Ballykissangel, The Tudors, Glenroe, Fr Ted), Deirdre Monaghan (Fair City, Batchelors Walk, Whistleblower, The Clinic); Pa Ryan (Pure Mule, Trivia, The Whistleblower, Game of Thrones), Aaron Monaghan (The Last Furlong, LSD: 73, Ella Enchanted, Speed Dating, Love/Hate), Ian Lloyd Anderson (The Clinic, Raw, Love/Hate) and Clare Monnelly (Moone Boy). Ride On! opened on 1st November at Mullingar Arts Centre, before touring to Dublin, Galway, Newbridge, Sligo, Drogheda, Letterkenny, Longford, Portlaoise, Cavan, Carrigallen and Roscommon. Fri 7th December - Sat 8th December sees it staged at Ramor Theatre, Virginia.
