Volunteers who carried out the audit

Accessibility audit carried out in Ballivor

An accessibility audit of Ballivor was undertaken yesterday, with volunteers assessing how easy it is to walk or move through the village.

The audit noted hazards around the footpaths and will inform the council on improvements needed to be carried out by the council itself, private individuals or utility companies.

The audit was organised by Cllr Ronan Moore who was inspired by a similar exercise carried out by Prosper Trim some time ago in Trim.

“The audit took about two hours and involved several volunteers including Melanie Drake of Ballivor Community Council and Ita Healy of the Older Persons Council,” he explained.

“We had six volunteers and we walked up and down the main streets of Ballivor taking note of problems and issues such as trip hazards and uneven surfaces.

“It is about mobility issues and to identify where people in wheelchairs or with buggies would have difficulty and places where there are problems for the visually impaired.

“We took note of uneven paths and places where pavements have fallen into disrepair."

He explained that he will now collate the results and forward them to the council.
